Does Otis have a subscription to the Los Angeles Times?
I want unlimited access to latimes.com
Answer
It's complicated. :-(
Unfortunately, the Los Angeles Times does not offer similar academic subscription access as the New York Times.
Otis has text-only access for articles published in the Los Angeles Times from 1997-today in eLibrary.
There are several other places to search their articles, depending on the date.
- The latimes.com website only covers 1985-today plus a small selection of older articles.
- They do offer a discounted e-subscription to students and educators for $52
- They also offer regular introductory promotions, such as $1/6 months
- You can access the newspaper online for free through two different databases in the Los Angeles Public Library. Both require an ecard:
- Los Angeles Times (ProQuest) covers 1985-today
- Los Angeles Times Historical Archives (ProQuest) covers 1881-1996
- If you want to search the entire archive of from 1881-today, you need to go to Newspapers.com. It costs about $8/month.
- You can access it for free if you go in person to the Los Angeles Public Library; the Westchester branch is 1 block away.
